Resolved Question: What can I do if someone owes me $35,000 and I don't have anything in writing. I do have a copy of the check

A month ago I applied for a home equity line of credit. I haven't used any of it yet because I have a rate lock option and want to see the median int rate over a period of time. I log into my bank website daily to check the rates and they have not changed the entire month. Is this possible? I e-mailed them twice to ask about why the rates don't change and they keep replying but give me other information--not answering my question like "did you know your interest paid could be tax deductable if..." Please let me know how often these interest rates change. I don't know if they just don't update their webpage. Additionally the rate has been 6.55 %variable and 7.4% locked. Is this good?

Voting Question: Our home caught fire.?

My husband and were supposed to close on a home this Friday, unfortunately, our home we are moving out of caught fire Monday due to the ice storm (we live in Oklahoma) branches knocked down our power lines and caused the house to catch fire and now the bank loan has backed out because our "equity" in the old home no longer exists. We do have insurance to cover everything to replace what was in the old home. Has anyone experienced this? The loan was to be a FHA loan. Advise please. I have internet at work.

Resolved Question: What can I do if someone owes me $35,000 and I don't have anything in writing. I do have a copy of the check

My husband let a family member borrow $35,000 with the understanding that he would receive $60,000 in return. He wrote a check to this family member against our home equity line but did not get it in writing (bad mistake). This person is no longer returning any of his calls at this point and it has now been just over a year. We live in Michigan and wanted to know if anyone knew of any legal recourse that we could take.

Thanks for any help
