Open Question: i need help, i know what would fix the problem but i dont think it will happen...?

OK well me and my boyfriend went in on Saturday August 25th to get an application started on a home equity line of credit. The guy informed us that it can take anywhere from 5-8 business days to complete. well Today (Tuesday) September 4th it has been 6 business days. and my boyfriend tried to phone the bank today and get a hold of the guy we were talking to and on his voice mail it says he is gone until (Thursday) September 6th. If we were to call the bank and talk to the receptionist would she or anybody else at the bank be able to tell us when and if the loan is going to go through? or do we need to talk to only him?

Open Question: Home equity loan for credit card debt?

Hi--
It's amazing how quickly you can go from livin' phat to flat broke.
My husband and I have $60,000 in home equity mostly from a very large down payment about 6 months ago. And now are about $15,000 in the hole with credit cards at about 10%.
I think taking out a home equity loan (we are 6% on that one) is a good idea, but don't know that much about it. Will it damage credit ratings, etc?
We can pay the bills just fine but don't like the fact that amex owns our azzes.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

my mom has a business and i help her. the problem is that its not making money and there is no cash to pay wholesalers, other expenses with the business. its a sole pro. and if she declares bankruptcy they would take her house i believe im not sure. she has a home equity and the collateral is her house. the business has no loans, just debt. she wants out but doesnt know if she can make it out without losing her home. what should she do
